Speedwork
Tonight I did not want to do speed and I was in bed tired and just wanting to go back to sleep. However, I did do the workout. I did 8 x 400m, 4 x 200m, and 4 x 100m. For the 400m I was in the 1:26.5 to 1:30.2 window. For the 200m 37.3 to 41.0. Finally, the 100m 17.9 to 19.6. I am right in my window and I am doing great. I am getting ready to go to bed.
Happy running,

7 Mile Easy Run
This morning I went running early in the morning. I had a really good run. It is so peaceful to run in the morning when everyone is sleeping. I ran 7 miles at 8:17 pace. I like to run the last two miles at marathon pace for my easy runs. It does take me a while to get warmed up so I need to make sure I push in the last couple of miles. Looks like rain tonight. I am going to do some speedwork tonight.
Happy running,

Long Run 15 miles
This was the most challenging long run that I have done so far. It was very difficult to climb on the mountain for the last 2.5 miles. It broke me and I was very disappointed. This was the first time I have done a run that I have had to stop and walk. I was really pushing but I had nothing in the tank.
I held a 9:22 pace for 12 miles and the last 2 miles I had to walk. It was really had. I ended up doing a 10:30 overall pace.
14.16 miles, 10:30/pace, 2138 cal, 1969 ascent, descent 1898. The descent was alright but the ascent was brutal.
I am going to sleep happy running,

Track Workout Tempo 6 miles
This evening I am going to be honest I was not feeling the best. I have a chest cold and it is really bothering me. I am heading to the clinic in the morning. I think I need something more than an over the counter med. I am going to run easy tmw and not push so hard. I have a long run of 14 miles this sunday. I am going to try and carb up tonight and tmw.
I did not feel like running tonight. I just was not feeling it. I got out on the track and did a warm-up but when it was time to run I ran a 1/2 mile and said,”This is going to suck!” I got some water and then said, “Get to it!”
5.99 miles @ 7:45/pace
1 mile 8:09/mile
2 miles 7:51/mile
2 miles 7:40/mile
1 mile 7:16/mile
All that matters is that I got through it and I am HAPPY NOW!

Speedwork tonight. . .800m slow 1200m speed 2×400m speed
I just want to start off not even talking about my speedwork tonight. I find myself very focused these days on my fall marathon. I think about times and other little things that run across my mind about the race and other things. Now that I am registered for the race I am really focusing on my training. I look at the training as a stepping stone to completing my marathon journey. Each workout is no less important than the other. I think about places to run that will help my running. Is it alright to think about my race for the fall often as I prepare for a race?
My first marathon the Baltimore Marathon preparation was not as intense as I am working now. I did not have a simular focus on the race. I was prepared but not focused on the race as I am for this race. All in all I think I am taking the right approaches to training. I am seeing the evidence in my recent races.
For speedwork I did a really hard workout tonight. I was done after this workoout.
800m slow jog
1200m Speed
400m slow jog
400m speed
400m slow jog

Third Repeat

400 M Total Time 1:22/ Avg pace 5:28/mi

I don’t think these are bad times. I had nothing else left in the tank after this workout. Well take care sweat365 fans,

Easy Run Tonight
Tonight I did an easy 4.5 mile run. The weather was great. I ran with college kids tonight. They are home from school and most of them complete on track teams. When I run with them they really put my running into perfective. What they run for easy is my tempo pace and quicker. They are really quick. It is all relative when it comes to running.
I want to thank all of you for your comments and your support. I live to blog on sweat365 because you guys rock.
4.5 miles at 8:19 pace. I was really taking it easy tonight.
Got a busy running day tmw so I will keep you posted. Speed and easy run tmw.
Thanks again,

PR Double Creek Half Marathon
Pre-race prep
The race taper really worked well for me. This week I was really light. I did a 20 min tempo run on tuesday and wednesday I ran an easy 6 miles. I took thursday and friday off. I was kind of worried about taking off two days in a row but I figured that my body could use the rest. Three days of carb loading was great as well. It really helped during the race. Last but not least a good nights sleep made me feel fresh in the morning.
Race Day
I must say that if you have not ever run in the rain before it is a good thing. For the entire 1/2 it rained and poured at times. It was really bad. Pre race I decided to run shirtless and I think that was the best decision. I did a normal stretch and went out. When I was driving through the course on the way to registration it seemed like a hilly course. I was saying to myself all you have to do is run a 1:40 or better.
When the race started it was pouring. I was really fighting to hold back from going out to face. the first two miles were a lot of rolling hills. After mile two there was a killer hill that was very steep and gradual over a 1.5 miles. Everytime you seemed like the hill was over there was another part to it. Then we had some down and then one short steep hill. At the half way mark I was at 49:00. From 6-9 it was somewhat rolling. I was feeling really good around mile 8. Miles 10-13.1 I really had to dig deep and push hard because it was the first two miles of the course. I was really tired at 12 but I knew I only had 1.1 to go. I ran with two guys mike and mike. They were awesome.
I finished the race at 1:38:44, 7:32 pace. (*PR) I am so proud of my time. I finished 25th out of 200 runner’s and 8th in my age group. My running coach finished 2nd with a 1:24. Congrats Jeff on banging out a PR. A Kenyan won the race with a 1:19. I was talking to him and he has just been in the US for 4 months. He was asking where any hills are. We exchanged numbers and will be doing some hill work together.
Well, I am tired so I am going to get in the bed. I am looking forward to a rest day tmw. No more races until August for me. I am going to really concentrate on my training.
Again I want to thank many of you for following me and giving me encouragement. It really helps motivate me.
Thanks,
Brookrunner

Double Creek Half in Dover PA
I am going to run a half marathon in the morning. This is going to be a good gauge for me to see where my distance training is taking me. I am going to really lay it all on the line. I had some good workouts this week. I did a tempo run on tuesday. I held a 6:53 pace for 20 mins and I did 6 miles on wednesday 8:35 pace. I did alright in the end but the warm up was really hard. But the good thing is I finished strong. I am looking to run anything under 1:40 for this race. Well I am off to bed for rest.
Happy running,
Brooksrunner
