Ben Moore Half Marathon Pre Race update

Well, I am very nervous and worried about this race. Today I have had a relaxing day. Slept in late this morning. I am getting ready to head down to Annapolis, MD within the hour.

The weather looks great for the race 74 and partly cloudy degrees at race time. There is a 20% chance of rain. The humidity seems a little high at 76%. The winds will be like 5 mph. For August that is a good temp. Later I will run three miles and then turn in early for a good nights rest.

I am going to get ready to leave not. I will keep you posted later.

Happy running

Light speed

Tonight I did some light speed to work on my leg speed. It felt good I had not run since sunday. I am well into my taper. I did 4 x 400s and 4 x 200s.

I did 4 x 400s at 1:21, 1:18, 1:18, 1:14 4:55 pace
I did 4 x 200s at .33, .33,34, .33 4:18 pace

Those are not very bad speed numbers. I am looking forward to saturday. I am starting to get nervous. That is always a good sign for me. I run like I am frightened when I am nervous and that is a good thing. The race I am running in saturday is the Ben Moore Half Marathon. A nice indicator for me in regards to seeing where my training is going. This will only be my second half so I need to PR this race on saturday. I should because I am in much better shape than I was a month ago. I have been training super hard for this half. I have some distance under my belt so I should have good stamina.

Well I will keep you posted pre and post race. Heading out early friday to get settled into hotel. I will probably run about three miles on friday. Do some good stretches and relax for the race in the morning.

Also my new T5 brooks racing flats will be here friday so I am looking forward to running in them.

Have a great night, happy running

10 mile Run 1:15

How is everyone doing? Well, I took 3 days rest because I felt that I was pushing myself to much and I was feeling very sore.  It felt great to get some rest and relaxation.  I was getting the running bug though when I was not running.  I was thinking to myself what is going to happen if I take this much time off.  Well, the rest was good.  So good I ran my best 10 mile run ever.

At first I was doing like 7:40 for the first couple of miles.  Then I dropped back to 7:45 to 8:00 until mile 5.  After mile 5 I ran 7:33, 7:24, 7:20, 7:23 and a 7:11.  That is all under my goal pace for my marathon.  I am really happy about running neg splits for the last 5 miles.

10.00 miles 1:15:53, 7:35/mi, cal 1517, 909 total ascent, 951ft total descent.

It looks like I need to take more rest.  Anyway I am on my taper for my half marathon next saturday.  I am going to be participating in the Ben Moore Half Marathon in Annapolis, MD.  I am looking forward to running a great race.  I will keep you posted after the race.  Bringing the old laptop with me.

This week is going to be a light week.  I am not going to do anything extreme.  Well have a good rest of the weekend.  I am heading to walmart to get me a stop watch for my track workouts.

Happy running,

17 Mile long run one word “Awesome!”

This was my best run of my long runs so far.  I did 17 and to be honest I felt like I could have done 5 more miles.  My energy level was great.  I did not feel tired all throughout the run.  I even held back because I thought I was going to blow up at the end.  I had a lot left.

The first 10 miles I did at 8:50 and that was really comfortable.  Then I dropped down to 8:30’s and for the last five miles I did 8:04, 8:00, 7:38, 8:00, 7:15.

17.14 miles, 2:25:26 time, 8:29/mi, 2701 cal, 1947 ft ascent, 1879 ft descent.

Have a wonderful day and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Fighting the summer heat

How is the my sweat friends doing? It has been a while since I have been on.  All that is on my mind right now is this blistering heat this week.  I am trying to hydrate more during the day.  I drinking double the amount per day.  I am really putting in alot of miles.  I did speedwork, easy runs, and tempo run.

On Tuesday, I did some speedwork.  I did 10 x 100’s, 2 x 200’s, and 1x 400.  I did not wear my watch so I did not really know how fast I was going.  All I know is that I felt really tired after this workout.  The next day I did 10 miles in 90 plus degrees.  That was really brutal.  I did 1:31, 9:10 pace.  It was so hot I had to walk two times.  I did that same course in 1:21.  The heat drained me.  On Thursday, I did a tempo run.  It was in the 90’s.  I ran at 5:30 in the afternoon.  I did a 7:40 pace for 5 miles.  This morning I ran 7 miles at 8:44 pace, 1:01.  I was pushing in the end and I still could not manage to do a 7:53 pace for the last mile.

I hope it cools down.  Well everyone have a great weekend.

16 Mile Long Run Delaware Water Gap

This morning I did a 16 mile long run.  I felt pretty good but I could tell that as you get higher in your milage you start to slow down some.  I must also take into consideration that I am not used to running here in Northeastern, PA.  I felt great throughout the run until mile 13 and I started feeling some pain in my right shin.  It did go away as I continued to run.

It is so beautiful here in the poconos.  I love running here.  It is so peacful running along the water.  Today,  I did have to do 6 miles on the road but it was still peaceful.  This is the first long run that I did that had some rolling hills.  They are very challenging and seem to come when you don’t want them to be there.  Can you call the quad police and warn them about the downhill sections because I know I am going ot be feeling it tmw.  At least tmw is a rest day.

16.11 miles, 8:45 pace, 2538 cal, 3831 ascent.  It has been a long monring and I am going back to the resort to doze for a few hours. Have a great rest of the weekend.

12 miles Delaware Water Gap

I just want to say that I love it up here in the Pocono mts.  The fresh air and beautiful surroundings makes for good running.  In addition, it is always good to be around family.  I arrived yesterday and was determined to run but did not because of family responsibilities.

I did 12 miles  out and back this morning.  I ran along the water for 5 miles and 1 mile on the road.  It had some very steep climbs at some points which made the run challenging.  The first few miles were steep downs.  The in the middle there was a steep down and one climb.  It was an out and back foe me.  It was a really nice running surface with low impact on you feet.  It was nice running and seeing animals along the trail.  I saw two runners and one guy with his dog.  I must running in that Delaware Water Gap came at a good time for me.  I got a good workout and am looking forward to doing my long run tmw morning there.

12.01 miles, Total Time 1:41:37, Avg pace 8:27/mi, total cal 1912, total ascent 2213ft and total descent 2201ft.

I running in my window and I am oushing really hard this month.  Keep sweating365 we are all rocking.  Everyone have a good weekend everyone.

5 mile Tempo Run

Tonight I ran 5 miles at 7:07 pace.  I was very spent after this run.  I am really making some good gains and I want to maintain this speed.  It is really hard to run in the 6’s consistantly.  I am going to really have to push to stay in the 6’s.

I am going away to the pocono mountains this weekend.  I am going to be with family.  I am still going to do my runs.  I am doing 16 for my long run this weekend.  I am going to carb load saturday night.  I am starting to take my diet really serious.  I am hydrating alot more now.  I need it with doing 60-70 miles per week.  I find that I am getting more thristy now.

Well everyone have a safe and happy weekend.  Enjoy your families.  I miss seeing my family.  It will be nice to relax in the pocono mountains with them.  Lots of rest and relaxation for me.  I am bringing my computer so I will post my long run this weekend.

Speedwork and Easy 10 miles

In the morning I warmed up with an easy 7 miles at 8:31 pace.  In the evening I did some 800’s.  I did 8 x 800s.  I held about 3:15 pace for all the 800s.  I have found that I am getting much quicker and I think it is because when I do all my runs I try and run the last 3 miles at marathon pace or better.  Also I think my running economy is getting better as well.  I am really going to start pushing this month.  I have a half coming up on August 1st and I really want to do well.  The only way to how how I am going to in the full is to really push in this half.  The race is in Annapolis, MD.   The Ben Moore Memorial Half Marathon.

Tonight I did 10 miles of hills using a progressive tempo run.  I started out with three miles at 8:30, 2 miles at 8;20, 2 miles at 8;10, 2 miles at 7:49 and the last mile at 6:50.  I was pushing really hard on this workout because I like to run hard on wednesday before tempo.  I did a 1:21 on hills and considering I did 1:19 at Broad Street 10 miler.  I think that is very good.  I was pushing hard on the hills and keeping pace.  It is really hard to run on ten miles of hills.  I really have to do some deep breathing and concentrate on my form when I am running.  Thursday will be a tempo run.

I am sorry if I don’t post right after my runs.  Sometimes I am tired and all I can do is just shower and hit the rack.  I do thank you all for reading my post.  I will continue to keep you updated.

Nutritional Help

I was wondering if anyone could help me out with a good nutritional plan.  I have lost 30lbs but I still want to lose 15 more.  I want to be around 175 at race day.  What are the best foods to eat when training for a marathon?

Thanks,

Brooksrunner

looking forward to lots of responses thanks again
