10 Miles Easy Run
I must say knowing that I do not have a race coming up in three months is a nice feeling. Yesterday was not a typical saturday for me. I pretty much did nothing all day. I was in bed pretty much all day. I did get up and clean the house and then relaxed on the couch all day. I needed that relaxation.
Yesterday was such a beautiful day I should have gone out and did something but I find myself running all the time and said I am just going to chill all day. I did not even watch football or television all day either. I did watch a movie last night before I went to sleep. Actually when I woke up the TV was watching me. I have been nursing a cold so I have not been feeling up to anything much. So I really needed the rest.
This morning I really wanted to get out and a get a run in because the weather is so beautiful out there. So I went out pretty late around 9 this morning. The sun was beating down on me all during the run. Today I changed the setting on my garmin so it just had time on it. I just wanted to run easy today. I did not want to fucus on my pace.
I think I looked at my watch 3 times for a 10 mile run that is very good for me. I am usually so engaged with the watch but I think it throws off my running economy when I took it so much. I saw when it was 58 secs, 27 mins, and 1:13. After that I did not look at it until I stopped at the finish. I did not even set the lap button to tempt me to look down and see what pace I was running each mile at.
I ran today to the point that I was briefing hard but I could hold a conversation if I wanted to. The first three miles I felt alright. I was driving a little up the hills but not going to hard. I was driving my arms alot on the inclines working on my form. I was shortening my stride length going up the inclines as well. I focused on keeping my head up straight when I was getting a somewhat tired. I think every time I am going to do an easy run I am going to pick one thing to focus on. When I hit the three to six mile stretch I ran into some trouble.
During this stretch I was starting to feel really stuff. My body was telling me something was coming. I knew that I was going to be sick because when I cough that much during a run I know something is going to come up. It all came up at mile 6 I had to stop for a couple of mins to regain myself. I did very well on this stretch going up a nice grade. I worked the arms and geared down my stride length.
Miles six to nine was not that bad at all. I started out a little slow because of the episode I had at six. However, I found my stride and started to get back into my comfort level. I started to feel better about mile eight. I was not pushing really hard at all. I really like this stretch of the run because it is a nice steady down and I can just let my body take me on the rollers. It was nice to think to myself I only have two miles to go.
The last mile I really ripped it up. I was going faster because I could really feel that I was pushing near race pace at the end of mile ten. I always like to finish strong because that is how I finish for a race.
Overall, I had a great run with a minor hick-up. I went out to my favorite diner for breakfast after. If your ever in Carlisle checkout the fairgrounds diner. Great food, service, and great prices. Now I am home relaxing listening to Jay z writing.
I am in the Brooks ID program I hope that I get accepted in the program again this year. Sounds like it is going to be a great program. I am going to try and look for sponsorship for 2010. I would love to run for brooks but I know I need to work harder.
I did not get to register for this years Boston. The race closed the day I was going to register. So now I am looking at 2011 Boston. It closed in record time this year.
I will be doing NYC Marathon next year so that will be one target race for me. I thinking about Chicago as well. I am also seriously considering the Suntrust National Marathon in the spring.
I am going to be doing the same training plan with the five phases of training but I am going to be doing something different for my long runs. I am going to be doing double days on the weekends adding 1200M repeats to simulate the marathon experience. I really do not know the details about that yet but I am sure if you read my blog you will see the workouts on there.
According to Jeff he his friend is doing these workouts and has dropped significant time off his marathon time. Jeff says that this guy runs in the mid 2s for marathons.
Well, I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend. I am going to just chill out and do some things around the house nothing special. Be safe and enjoy the weekend kicking up asphalt.
